The current state of climbing media
We believe the current media surrounding climbing is trash and inapplicable to the average user. Nobody cares about Alex Puccio’s core circuit or Daniel Woods’ 4x4 routine - these aren’t practical examples of what the average weekend warrior can do. More relevant topics like hangboarding protocols or nutrition have likely been beaten to death.
So what are we doing about it?
Two Brothers on a Board is trying to make interesting, relevant, and fresh content from more average individuals that have novel insights about a niche in climbing. We aim to provide information, nuances, and inspiration you can add to your daily life to improve your climbing.
Why substack?
We want our content to be simple, accessible, and high-quality. Writing posts is an easy way of creating our platform while rendering it easy-to-find for anyone with a computer. Additionally, we believe writing lends itself higher quality content than the podcast format. Substack also allows us to to voice our opinion without any censoring or being worried about the cancel culture surrounding climbing media. Finally, we can have an open flow of conversation with our subscribers, allowing us to customize content to your wishes.
Where does “Two Brothers on a Board” come from?
We’re just two gumbies who started climbing later than your kid comp climber who’s been training since the age of 4. We believe that the best way to progress is not through hangboarding, weighted pullups, or other objective metrics. Climbing is a skill sport and board climbing lends itself to develop the relevant skills the most. Whether it be deadpointing, tension, or even dynos, we believe outdoor climbing skills are developed best using a board.
About us
This blog is written by Vishaal Agartha, with some inspiration and ideas from his brother, Vikas Agartha. We’re two brothers who eat, sleep, and drink bouldering. We climb indoors at least 3 days a week and climb outside at the minimum once a week. We started climbing at the ages of 21 and 16, respectively, but only started getting outside 4 years into our climbing careers (one of the deepest regrets of our lives). We reside in the Bay Area and primarily climb at the Touchstone gym facilities.
By profession, Vishaal is a full-time software engineer at Wells Fargo and a NBA basketball enthusiast.
